The Women’s Philanthropy Board sponsors mentoring initiatives to inspire and educate the next generation of philanthropists. Mentoring initiatives are open to any Auburn University student who has a desire to learn more about financial responsibility, philanthropic engagement and nonprofit leadership.
WPB Mentee Program
The WPB Mentee Program provides opportunities for Auburn University students to affiliate with the organization as WPB Mentees. As a WPB Mentee, students are encouraged to attend WPB educational programs where they will learn from exceptional speakers and network with business and nonprofit leaders. Students maintain their status as WBP mentee until they graduate from Auburn.
To affiliate with the Women's Philanthropy Board as a mentee, please contact Brittany Spillman at spillbl@auburn.edu.
Student Philanthropy Board
The Student Philanthropy Board (SPB) is a student leadership and mentoring initiative supported by the Women’s Philanthropy Board and is open to all Auburn University students. This organization is designed to support students who are seeking the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies minor or major at Auburn University and/or who aspire to work or volunteer in the nonprofit field following graduation.
SPB provides avenues for students to explore philanthropic engagement, nonprofit leadership, financial sustainability, community involvement and professional development in order to develop knowledge and skills for future service as nonprofit professionals, volunteers, or philanthropists. The mission of the SPB is to assist students to develop their full leadership potential; achieve independence as financial decision makers and donors; participate in the philanthropic cycle; discover the roles of nonprofits and their impact in communities; and network with nonprofit and philanthropic leaders.

Mini-Grants
Grant writing skills are essential for nonprofit leaders, and the Student Philanthropy Board strives to make sure its members are prepared for work in the nonprofit sector. Each year, members of SPB learn how to write grants through the Mini-Grant Project. This project allows SPB members to research, write, present, and vote on grant proposals on behalf of fellow Auburn organizations and departments. Each SPB member is responsible for determining which organization they would like to support and presenting information about their organization to the group. SPB votes on which grant(s) to fund each year, and funding is provided by the Women’s Philanthropy Board.
Previous mini-grant recipients include: Braveheart Center for Place and Purpose, AU Dance Marathon, Advocates for Disabilities, The Oaks Retreat, Alzheimer's Foundation of America on Campus, Project Uplift and the International Justice Mission.
Alabama Nonprofit Employee of the Year
First awarded in 2018, the Alabama Nonprofit Employee of the Year Award honors individuals who, through their professional efforts, are making a difference in the lives of citizens of Alabama and surrounding areas. The Student Philanthropy Board administers this award annually; putting out a call for nominations in early spring and voting to select an awardee.
Nominees are paid employees of nonprofit organizations benefitting Alabamians. Nominations are submitted by the nominee’s employer, supervisor, or coworker.
